Antje Majewski
German Artist
Antje
Majewski’s featured series of oils on macrosel (wood) and print
collages titled Mal de Ojo was inspired from her travels throughout
Mexico in the winter of 2004 and 2005. During her stay, Majewski
became engrossed in native legends and mythologies. Central
to all of these tales are the subjects of death, the dead, and
the after-life. Mal de Ojo is a visual expression of Majewski’s
ensuing spiritual and emotional meditation/search; it is her
aesthetic contemplation of universal enigmas such as beginnings
and endings, the ephemeral and the eternal, the natural and
the supernatural, and the earthly and the divine, with local
narratives as her stimulus.
