he
start of the 3rd millenium marks the 70th anniversary
of the Patron of Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, the
Arab Bank, established in Jerusalem in 1930.
To celebrate this important
event, the Darat Al Funun has organized a special program
reviving the cultural history of the Arab people to
run throughout the whole year, under the title "Journey
into the Arts of the Arab World".
The inaugural ceremony
begins in January, highlighting the arts from the Arabian
Peninsula (Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the
United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen), together with
the visual arts, literature, music and other forms of
self-expression will be included. The program continues
in March with the arts of the Valley of the Nile (Egypt
and Sudan), to be followed by the arts of the Mesopotamia
"Wadi Al Rafidain" (Iraq). Then in July, the arts of
Greater Syria "Bilad Al Sham" (Jordan, Palestine, Syria
and Lebanon). The end of the year 2000 will be closed
with the arts of "Arab Maghreb" countries (Morocco,
Algeria, Tunisia and Libya).
