"The private collection of The Arab Bank and The Abdul
Hameed Shoman Foundation"
"This exhibition displays 300
artworks of 52 Jordanian artists from the private collection
of The Arab Bank and The Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation"
Since the 1950s, Jordanian modern art has come a long
way in its development… like their peers in the Arab world,
Jordanian artists try to form their own artistic identity
by depicting local subject-matter in their art work, or
by borrowing various signs and motifs from their Nabatean
and Islamic cultural heritage, and linking them to the
present through well-known Western techniques and schools
of art.
The foundation of a modern art movement in Jordan have
been laid down through the strenuous efforts of artists
who at times faced difficult social, political, and economic
circumstances, which they overcame by unswerving dedication
and unshakable perseverance. Consequently, they were able
to express themselves and have society accept and appreciate
their creative work while striving towards a better future.
