Darat al Funun Summer Academy
From Darat Al Funun Summer 99 brochure
September 1999

With the participation of 16 young artists from Jordan , Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, the first year of Darat Al Funun Summer Academy which lasted for four weeks was launched . At the end the participants' works were exhibited and certificates were handed out to them in a celebration held on the occasion.

The Academy's concept coincided with the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation's 10th year anniversary of supporting arts. It was headed by the Berlin based Syrian artist Marwan Kassab Bashi professor at the Academy of fine Arts (HDK) of Berlin, where he also donated a complete exhibition of the gist of his art to the children of Palestine for permanent residence there.

Several discussions were held in inspiring atmosphere of Darat Al Funun between Marwan and the young artists where they were exposed to new ideas and trends prevailing in the world of art today. This establishment of the Summer Academy is a continuation of Darat Al Funun's own message in promoting knowledge, art and aesthetics.
