With a
keen eye on Amman, a group of young Arab artists gathered at
Darat Al Funun to capture the magic of the capital on canvas.
Twenty-three young artists from different Arab countries
(Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt and Syria) were invited
by the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation to participate in the
second annual "September Summer Academy" under the supervision
of the Berlin-based Syrian artist Marwan Kassab Bashi; professor
at the Berlin Fine Art Institute. |
Participants spend
a period of one month at Darat Al Funun exchanging experiences
and developing their abilities in painting and printing
techniques, after which an exhibition of 90 of their works was
held at the Darat.
Iraqi artist Nada Hasnawi's nine paintings of Amman' historical
sites "depict the deep rooted connection among Arab countries,"
Hasnawi explains that in Iraq there are several castles similar
to the Umayyad palace atop Amman's Citadel. "We learned about
using mixed media techniques, and about space in connection with
mass in addition to the use of colors," said Mustafa Yousef from
Jordan. The exhibition which was opened under the patronage of
Their Royal Highnesses Prince Raad Bin Zeid and Princess Majda
runs until Oct. 12 |
