Twelve artists from the European Union and the Mediterranean will spend a week together painting and attending workshops at Khalid Shoman Foundation's Darat al Funun.

"Artists in Town" is being organized by the foundation in cooperation with the European Commission Delegation in Amman. The event is part of the delegation's cultural exchange project to "bring people on both sides of the Mediterranean closer together and promote their mutual knowledge and understanding," according to a statement from the delegation.

This exchange will culminate in a joint exhibition on July 2, "reflecting the spirit of the Euro-Med Partnership, which has become a key regional framework for dialogue, not only between countries, but also between societies, cultures and civilizations," said delegation head, Robert van der Meulen, in the statement. Participants are to include Mathieu Briand (France), Pilar Garcia (Spain), Peter Riedlinger (Germany), Roberto Verace (Italy), Hammoud Shantout (Syria) and Samer Usama (Iraq). Several Jordanian artists will also participate, including HRH Princess Rajwa Bint Ali, Mohamad Qaitouqa, Rula Shukairy, Hanan Khalil and Samer Kurdi. We hope this will further cement the increasingly fruitful and intensive partnership between Europe and the Mediterranean, where great civilizations and cultures have coexisted for centuries, said Meulen. Darat al Funun's Assistant director, Adnan Sharif, told The Jordan Times the event is an opportunity for both Jordanian and European artists to exchange ideas and experiences. The workshop will also benefit artists through their exposure to various styles, added Sharif.
