Workshop outline:

This workshop is for the photographic artist ready for the next step, to create a body of work that is a visual expression of a place, a time, a point of view or a state of mind. Together we'll work to create your unique statement from concept, to image capture, to editing, processing, and presentation. In addition, you will receive mechanical and technical guidance on how to use your camera effectively to your desired end, and how to use the digital darkroom to improve the quality of your images. Cameras should have the capability to capture RAW files to be processed at Darat Al Funun. Please check with Darat Al Funun if your camera does not meet the criteria.

This intensive workshop focuses on the cutting edge of digital photography, from shooting to image editing, color management and printing. If you've made the move to digital but feel stuck at the intermediate stage, this workshop will jumpstart your progress with the latest information and techniques, taking your digital imaging skills to a whole new level.

In a supportive and personable atmosphere, the instructor will help each participant create a body of work that can be presented in a presentation of high end, exhibition quality prints. A last and exciting component of the workshop includes altered and experimental techniques to printing. At least 2 different experimental techniques will be covered, and possibly more if time allows.

Artist Residency

Art Omi (USA)
The International Artists Residency is a three week Residency Program for visual artists in upstate New York. Art Omi provides artists with a studio, living quarters and meals at no cost to the artist. Darat al Funun, the Khalid Shoman Foundation has secured a full fellowship and is inviting artists to apply. The Residency takes place for three weeks during the month of July. Each year, a different critic-in-residence is on hand to lead discussions and make one-on-one studio visits. Because of the proximity to New York City, there are also visits by many prominent critics, gallerists, curators, and artists. Valuable contacts are made through these informal encounters. In the evenings, after dinner, the group gathers for lectures, slide presentations and panel discussions.
