Ismail Fattah (1934-2004) - IRAQ Born in Basra
in 1934. Sculptor works and lives in
Iraq. Fattah studied
sculpture with famous Iraqi artist Jawad Salim
at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad before
going on to train in Rome. Much influenced by
the works of the British sculptors Henry Moore
and Keneth Armitage. Fattah has executed many of
the statues seen today all over Baghdad. His
most important work is the monument of the
Unknown Soldier. Meg Abu
