Nuha Al-Radi (1941 - 2004) - IRAQ
Born in Baghdad in 1941, the
artist studied art at the Byamshaw School of Art and Chelsea Pottery
in London (1961-1963); during the period 1971-1975, she taught
at the American University of Beirut. In 1990 she gave up her
pioneering place as a ceramist and started painting, etching and
sculpting from found objects. In 1998, Nuha wrote and published
the widely renowned Baghdad Diaries (London: Saqi Books) in English.
Exhibitions The artist exhibited in a number of galleries including
the Wasiti Galley (1964) and Museum of Modern Art (1971) in Baghdad,
the Contact Gallery (1973) and the Epreuve d'artiste Gallery (1999)
in Beirut; the Alif Gallery (1990) in Washington, D.C.; and the
Darat Al Funun (1995) in Amman, an installation titled " under
siege".
